Let's start somewhere..!

Hullow all,

My permanent address now is the couch in our room. So, my husband said I might as well take the time to write about the journey of my pregnancy. I took one month of unpaid leave from work to rest during my first trimester and I am very glad that I did. I've never really had a break in life. So, this is just FANTASTIC!

I've deleted all the previous post that has nothing to do with me anymore, all studies related. So, now I'll write more about what's happening currently since putting up a status on Facebook every minute is not preferable for me. I wanted to start blogging since last year, when I met Fahruddin, who became my fiance in May this year and husband two months later! Everything went by so quickly and I really didn't have much time to document it. I guess I'll just start now and maybe go back in time like Star Wars or X-Men.

Currently, I'm 9 and a half weeks and we had our first meeting with the ObGyn at Assunta Hospital last Thursday on 27th October. I was born here by Dato' Dr. Menon and had my pregnancy confirmed here as well. So, we decided to just go with this hospital. We chose this doctor who was friendly, very helpful in giving advice, calm, and absolutely hilarious.

Dr. Liew Fah Onn
M.B.,B.S. (Mal), M.R.C.O.G. (U.K.)
L.L.B. (Hons) (London)
Certificate in Legal Practice (Mal)
Senior Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist
Head of Dept. of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Assunta Hospital, Petaling Jaya, Selangor

He then did a scan of the baby. IT WAS SO CUTE! The hands and feet were visible and we can see and hear the heartbeat. It was so magical. Husband was indeed very, very happy. Priceless. I can't believe there's a tiny person inside of me. I've worked part-time in a maternity clinic before and seeing a baby on the screen was a normal thing for me. But seeing my own baby was something different!

However, the doctor also revealed to us that I have a 7x5cm cyst in my right ovary. I tried to be calm about it in front of the doctor and totally burst into tears outside. The doctor said there is nothing to worry about at the moment UNLESS I am in serious pain which means that the cyst is twisted. This will block the blood flow and an operation is needed. So, another scan will be done next month to see if the cyst is growing or not. I feel worried everyday but is trying not to think about it. I'm just so lucky that I have a very supportive husband. He assured me that everything's going to be alright no matter what happens.

In this first trimester, I experience a lot of headaches and dizziness which makes me feel like lying down most of the time. I also am going through terrible nausea every single day and vomits about 2-3 times per day but is slowly decreasing. Now I'm slowly learning more about what foods are good for me as I have terrible heartburn and acid reflux. So, I'm eating more alkaline foods which stays down in my belly a little longer. I have Gaviscon which is safe for pregnant moms but is trying not to depend on it. Any strong odours can trigger me to vomit so I stay away from all that and quickly cover my nose. I've also banned my husband from using his cologne, poor him.

My diet: Hup Seng cream crackers, Gardenia wholemeal and white bread, homemade mushroom soup, peanut butter and jam sandwich, scrambled eggs with Portobello mushrooms, boiled eggs, fresh salads, broccoli, fresh cucumber and tomatoes, ripe papayas and bananas, Homesoy soya bean drink, lemon water, mineral water, vege and fruit juice, boiled, baked or mashed potatoes and Anmum Materna. Once in a while, when we go to Tony Romas or TGIF, I would just have some of his food. I eat little but frequent since digestion is very slow now. Drinks water between meals rather than during to avoid bloating.

In short, eating habits, lifestyle and choice of clothing have all changed since the beginning of the pregnancy. It's difficult to get used to but I'm trying my very best. I hope when I enter my second trimester, I can work again and that my eating habits will improve. That's all for now... :)
